Founded in 1961, the Bolton Chamber Choir has in recent years established itself as one of the finest small choirs in the north-west of England. Under its new director Ian Chesworth, the choir has maintained a reputation for vigorous, stylish performances, attention to detail and imaginative programme planning.
A high standard of musicianship and commitment is demanded of the members, as the choir gives upwards of five concerts per year locally,
some of unaccompanied music and others shared with instrumentalists. Occasionally the singers join with other groups for larger events. The group is committed to a wide and challenging repertoire of music, ranging from the sixteenth century to the present day, and is regularly involved in commissioning new works. In 1997 the Choir had the distinction of giving a first performance at the National Federation of Music Societies' annual conference.
