The Occasional Consort is an ad-hoc group of singers based around Manchester and the north-west of England, focusing particularly on Renaissance and contemporary repertoire. Many able singers find it difficult to commit to a choir that demands weekly rehearsals. Our group is different:
- There is no compulsion for members to sing in every concert. Singers choose which events to take part in according to their other commitments.
- Instead of note-bashing for weeks on end, we send out sheet music well in advance so that singers can study it in their own time.
- We then meet for one substantial rehearsal about a week before the performance, in which we aim to focus exclusively on musical interpretation and choral ensemble.
- We aim to put on short concerts of between forty-five minutes and an hour, hoping to appeal to all kinds of audiences, not just the music geeks.
